Inside the tooth, there are nerves (pulp tissue) that have an important role in the nutrition and protection of dental tissues. The pulp starts from the crown of the tooth and proceeds to the root tip. Endodontics is the branch of science that deals with the treatment of diseases arising from these tissues.
Until the recent past, it was believed that the inflamed tooth would cause damage to other parts of the body and therefore the teeth were to be extracted. Although there have not been major changes in the basis of treatment methods; rapid progress in imaging (x-ray) devices, further development of the tools used in the canal with rapidly advancing technology; has allowed these teeth to be treated.
