The biennial Student Symposium, organized by the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP), took place in Ireland on 7-9 September 2017.

The symposium was attended by the directors, coordinators and students of the EFP accredited Periodontology Programs of 15 different dental faculties from 10 European countries participating in the EFP.

Dt. Begüm Atalay's "Clinical evaluation of the efficacy of hyaluronan-containing oral mouthwash on plaque inhibition", Dt. Ece Yarımoğlu's treatment of a patient with Miller 2 gingival recession by gingival unit grafts (Kuru & Yıldırım, J Periodontol., 2013) and the case reports including the 1-year follow-up of the patient were of great interest.

At the Meeting, Prof. Dr. Bahar Eren Kuru directed the research presented by the University of Madrid Complutense and case presentations of the University of Strasbourg's peri-implantitis treatment, and open them to debate to all the students.

The Symposium where Turkey was successfully represented by the Department of Periodontology of Yeditepe University Faculty of Dentistry offered opportunities for exchange of students and faculty members from both universities and faculties in terms of social and academic relations. At the meetings held during the symposium, the Yeditepe Dentistry Faculty Periodontology Program and Turkey were presented as candidate countries and programs for the symposium to be held in 2019.

The symposium was attended by Yeditepe University Faculty of Dentistry as the sole practitioner of an accredited periodontology program by EFP from Turkey. On behalf of the faculty, the Head of the Department and Program Director Prof. Dr. Bahar Eren Kuru, Program Coordinator Assoc. Dr. Hare Gürsoy and program students Dt. Begüm Atalay, Dt. Ece Deniz Yarımoğlu and Dt. Kübra Burcu attended the symposium.
