POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES IN ORTHODONTICS

Department offers both MSc and PhD programmes and teaching will consist of lectures, seminars and practical work.
MSc programme is designed to extend knowledge in orthodontics and the course is mainly clinically oriented at upgrading the general practitioner for handling of special clinical cases. The program is designed to give a wide perspective on the diagnosis, prevention, interception, and treatment of all forms of malocclusion of the teeth and associated alterations in their surrounding structures; and also to give knowledge and skill on the design, application and control of functional and corrective removable and fixed appliances; and the guidance of the dentition and its supporting structures to attain and maintain optimum relations in physiologic and esthetic harmony among facial and cranial structures, as well as giving insight on interdisciplinary treatment options and complications related to the treatment procedures. Graduates should expect more than half of their time in the treatment of patients.
PhD programme consists of core curriculum of basic sciences and a thesis of original research which must be submitted at the end of the course. Graduates will be introduced to techniques of advanced orthodontics. They may also develop their clinical practice and/or benefit from other multidiciplinary courses.

The curriculum includes:
• Development of the dentition
• Facial growth
• Physiology and patho-physiology of oral functions
• Biology of tooth movements and dentofacial orthopedics
• Diagnostic procedures
